B-Day Reminder privacy policy
B-Day Reminder is an app by Kanku Software Solutions that helps you remember birthdays and send your wishes on time. This policy explains what data the app processes and what your rights are.
Last updated: October 1, 2026
1. Summary
B-Day Reminder runs entirely on your device. We have no servers of our own and the app makes no network connections: we do not receive your contacts, your birthdays or any other personal data. There are no accounts, ads, analytics, tracking or third-party SDKs. Access to Contacts and notifications is optional.
2. Controller
The controller is Kanku Software Solutions, contact email info@kankusoft.com.
The data you enter or import is processed only on your device and we have no access to it; in practice, Kanku Software Solutions does not receive users’ personal data. We still tell you who we are and how to reach us for any privacy question.
3. Data the app handles and where it is stored
None of this data is sent to Kanku Software Solutions or to third parties.
| Data | Purpose | Where it is stored |
|---|---|---|
| Birthdays you add by hand: name, day and month, year (optional), notes, favourite and “wished” mark | Showing, sorting and filtering the list and working out how long is left until each birthday. | The app’s local database (SwiftData), in a container shared only with the app’s own widget (App Group). |
| Birthdays imported from Contacts: name, date, contact identifier and thumbnail photo | Showing your contacts’ birthdays and photos in the app and in the widgets. | The same local storage; the thumbnail is saved as a file in the container shared with the widget. |
| Your contacts’ phone numbers | The Call, Message and WhatsApp buttons and the quick actions on reminders. | Not stored by B-Day Reminder: they are read from Contacts and only kept in memory while the app needs them. |
| App settings: how far ahead to remind, time of day, quiet hours and whether you completed the first screen | Remembering your preferences. | The app’s local preferences (UserDefaults), some of them in the container shared with the widget. |
| Summary of upcoming birthdays (name, date and status) | Feeding the widgets. | Preferences shared with the widget inside your device (App Group). |
| Scheduled reminders, with the person’s name in the text | Reminding you of birthdays. | Local notifications scheduled and stored by iOS on your device. |
| Text of suggested wishes (the person’s name is included in the instruction given to the model) | Proposing a birthday message. | Processed on your device by the Apple Intelligence model. B-Day Reminder does not store the generated messages. |
4. Permissions
Contacts (optional)
If you allow it, B-Day Reminder reads names, birthdays, thumbnail photos and phone numbers from your Contacts app, only to show you the birthdays and to offer the call and message actions. You can use the app without granting this permission by adding birthdays by hand.
You can withdraw it at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Contacts. When you do, B-Day Reminder stops reading your contacts, but names, dates and thumbnails the app has already saved stay on your device (and may still appear in the widgets) until you delete the app.
Notifications (optional)
B-Day Reminder asks for permission to send notifications the first time you turn on a person’s reminder (bell icon). These are local notifications: your device schedules them and no push notification servers are involved. The text includes the person’s name; in iOS notification settings you can decide how they are shown while the device is locked.
B-Day Reminder does not request access to location, camera, microphone, photos or advertising tracking.
5. Widgets
The Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets read the app’s data inside your device (names, dates and, on the Home Screen, thumbnail photos). Lock Screen widgets may be visible while the device is locked; if you do not want that, do not add them or remove them from the Lock Screen customisation.
6. Suggested wishes and Apple Intelligence
This feature is only available on iOS 26 or later and on devices that support Apple Intelligence. It uses the language model Apple provides on the device itself (the Foundation Models framework): the person’s name and the chosen tone are given to that local model to generate the text, and B-Day Reminder sends nothing to our servers or to any other third party. How the model works is subject to Apple’s terms and privacy policy.
The generated text is only a proposal: you can edit it and decide whether to send it. If you send or share it, the app you choose receives it (see the next section).
7. Calls, messages and WhatsApp
When you tap Call, Message or WhatsApp, or send a wish, B-Day Reminder hands the phone number (and, where relevant, the text) to the system or app you choose, using standard iOS mechanisms (tel:, sms: and whatsapp: links, or the share sheet). From that moment that app handles the data under its own terms and privacy policy. B-Day Reminder receives nothing back and does not send anything to Kanku Software Solutions.
8. What we do not do
- We do not create accounts or ask you to sign up.
- We have no servers of our own and the app makes no network connections.
- We include no advertising, analytics, tracking, advertising identifiers or third-party SDKs.
- We do not sell or share data with third parties.
- We do not move personal data off your device, so we make no international data transfers.
9. Apple services
B-Day Reminder is distributed through the App Store and, during testing, TestFlight. Apple processes certain data when you download or use those services, under its own privacy policy, and is an independent controller of that processing.
From Apple we only receive, through App Store Connect, aggregated and anonymous statistics (for example the number of downloads). Anonymous diagnostics and usage data, such as crash reports, are only shared with us if you turn on “Share with App Developers” in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements; if you do not, we do not receive them. We do not receive personal data that identifies you.
If you use iCloud Backup or a computer backup, the app’s data may be part of it, depending on your iOS settings. Those backups are managed by Apple (or by you), not by Kanku Software Solutions.
10. Legal basis
Kanku Software Solutions does not process users’ personal data on its own systems. The app’s access to Contacts and notifications is based on your consent, which you give and can withdraw at any time through iOS permissions (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR); the local processing of the birthdays you enter is necessary to provide the features you ask for (Art. 6(1)(b)). In addition, the data of other people that you enter or import (for example a friend’s birthday) is used by you in the course of a purely personal or household activity (Art. 2(2)(c) GDPR).
11. Retention and deletion
The data stays on your device until you delete it:
- Birthdays added by hand: delete them from the app (swipe the row and tap “Delete”, or use the “…” menu on the person’s page).
- Birthdays from Contacts: remove the date or the contact in the Contacts app; they disappear from B-Day Reminder when you open the app or refresh the list.
- All data at once: delete the app. The database, thumbnails, settings and data shared with the widget are removed.
- Permissions: withdraw them in iOS settings (see section 4).
12. Security
The data is stored in the app’s space and in the container shared with its widget, protected by iOS system mechanisms (app isolation and device data protection). We recommend protecting your device with a passcode and keeping iOS up to date.
13. Your rights
Under Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR) and applicable Spanish law, you may exercise your rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, objection and portability, and withdraw your consent at any time. Because the data is on your device and under your control, you can exercise them directly:
- Access: the data B-Day Reminder stores is what you see in the app.
- Rectification: edit the birthday in the app or, if it comes from Contacts, in the Contacts app.
- Erasure: delete the birthdays or delete the app (section 11).
- Restriction, objection and withdrawal of consent: withdraw permissions in iOS settings or stop using the app.
- Portability: B-Day Reminder has no export feature; imported birthdays already live in your Contacts app.
If you would rather write to us, email info@kankusoft.com. We will reply within the legal deadline (one month) and, since we do not hold your data, we will confirm that and explain how to exercise the right on your device.
You have the right to lodge a complaint with the Spanish Data Protection Agency (www.aepd.es) or with the data protection authority of your country of residence.
14. Children
B-Day Reminder is not directed at children under 14 and we do not collect data from anyone, children included. The App Store “4+” age rating means the app contains no objectionable content; it does not mean the app is aimed at children. If an adult stores a child’s birthday in the app (for example a son, daughter or relative), that data is treated like any other: it is only stored on the device.
15. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy, for example if the app’s features or the law change. We will publish the current version on this page with its update date. If a change meant handling data differently from what is described here (for example adding services that connect to the internet), we will say so prominently before it applies.
