Katas privacy policy

Katas is a Kankusoft iPhone app to browse karate katas, build lists and run competitions. This policy explains what data the app handles.

What you enter

Everything you type into the app: competition names, categories and competitors, notes, tatami, rounds and kata lists. This data is stored on your device.

iCloud

If you are signed in to iCloud on your device, the app keeps a copy of your competitions in your private iCloud database (CloudKit) so they stay available and in sync. That data belongs to your iCloud account, Apple manages it under its privacy policy, and Kankusoft cannot access it. If you do not use iCloud, the app still works with local data.

Sharing competitions

You can share a competition with an iCloud link. Anyone with that link can view the shared competition (read-only access), and you can stop sharing at any time from the app. If you enter other people’s data, such as competitors’ names, you are responsible for having their consent to share it.

Share links go through a redirect page hosted at katas.kankusoft.com, which only redirects to iCloud. Like any web server, it may keep usual technical data in its access logs, such as the IP address and the time of the visit.

How to delete your data

You can delete competitions and lists from the app. Deleting a competition you own also deletes its iCloud copy and its link stops working (if you are offline at that moment, it completes the next time you open the app online). Deleting a competition shared with you only removes your copy. Uninstalling the app deletes the local data. To delete the data stored in iCloud, go to Settings > your name > iCloud > Manage Account Storage and select Katas if it appears in the list.

Children

Katas does not collect data from any user, including children.

If the app changes how it handles data, we will update this page and state the date of the last update.
