Cámara Forense support

Need help with Cámara Forense? Write to info@kankusoft.com. Tell us your device model, iOS version and what happened, and do not include photographs or data from real evidence. Requirements: iPhone or iPad with iOS or iPadOS 17.0 or later, with a rear camera and GPS; the app interface is in Spanish.

Frequently asked questions

How do I capture evidence?

Open the app and sign in with Face ID, Touch ID or the device passcode. Grant the camera and location (while using the app) permissions when iOS asks. If you wish, enter the investigator and the reason; the name is remembered for next time. Wait for the GPS indicator to turn green and tap “CAPTURAR EVIDENCIA”.

The app stamps the date, coordinates and investigator on the image, computes its SHA-256 hash, generates the control document, signs it and stores everything on your device. When finished you will see the “Evidencia Asegurada” notice.

The “Capturar evidencia” button is disabled

The button is only enabled when these conditions are met:

  • GPS has a fix: the indicator must be green. Indoors, move near a window or go outside for a few seconds. Check that location is allowed in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Cámara Forense.
  • The camera is active: if a red notice appears, follow its instruction (for example, “Abrir Ajustes” to grant camera permission). Another app using the camera, such as a video call, can also prevent it.
  • No other capture is in progress.

What does each piece of evidence contain?

  • Photograph with a visible mark of date, coordinates, altitude and investigator, with that data also in its EXIF metadata.
  • Control document (text file) with who, why, when, where and how: investigator, reason, date and time, coordinates, SHA-256 hash and device data.
  • Digital signature of the control document (firma_digital.sig) and the public key to verify it (clave_publica.pem).
  • Encrypted package using AES-256-GCM, as a local backup copy.

How do I check evidence outside the app?

Open the evidence and tap “Exportar para Verificación” (Export for Verification): the photo, control document, signature and public key are shared. On a computer with OpenSSL, from the folder where you saved the four files, run these two commands:

openssl dgst -sha256 -verify clave_publica.pem -signature firma_digital.sig control_*.txt

shasum -a 256 foto_*.jpg

The first command should answer Verified OK: the control document has not been altered since the device signed it. The second computes the photo’s hash, which must match the “Hash SHA-256” line in the control document.

Shipping the public key together with the evidence shows the document was not altered, but not, by itself, that the signature comes from a specific device. For that, record the device’s public key through an independent channel when you enrol it in your procedure.

What is the encrypted package and why can’t I open it on my computer?

It is a local backup copy encrypted with AES-256-GCM. The key is stored only in this device’s keychain and the app does not export it, so the package cannot be opened outside it. To give evidence to someone else, use “Exportar para Verificación”.

My evidence shows as “unsigned”

The digital signature is made by the device’s Secure Enclave. On hardware without one (for example, some simulators) the evidence is still saved, but unsigned, and the control document states this explicitly. Its integrity can then be checked with the SHA-256 hash.

Is evidence backed up?

No. Evidence is excluded from iCloud and computer backups so it does not leave the device. If you lose, replace or restore the device, it cannot be recovered: export important evidence with “Exportar para Verificación” and store it where appropriate.

How do I delete my data?

  • One piece of evidence: “Evidencias” tab → select it → “Eliminar Evidencia”. This cannot be undone.
  • Everything at once: uninstall the app. Evidence, the register and preferences are removed.
  • Exported files: they are outside the app; delete them from wherever you sent them as well.
  • Permissions: in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security.

Does it work on iPad?

Yes, on any iPad with a rear camera running iPadOS 17.0 or later. When sharing the screen with another app (Split View, Slide Over or windows), iPadOS may block camera use: open the app full screen to capture.

What data does the app collect?

None that reaches us: the app has no accounts, does not connect to servers of its own and includes no analytics, advertising or third-party SDKs. See the privacy policy for details.
